Co-requisite: CHE 2421. Prerequisites: CHE 1223, CHE 1221. The student will study basic organic compound families; alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and alkyl halides; and specific reactions and preparations related to these compound families. Specific emphasis will be given to nomenclature, stereochemistry, Sn1, Sn2, E-1, and E-2 reactions, mechanisms, and electronic structure. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to use the materials studied to relate to topics covered in future courses. Evaluation will be determined by unit tests and a comprehensive final examination. Three one-hour lectures per week. Credit, three semester hours
