Hours: 3 Course ID: 005375 Provides an in-depth introduction of the role and responsibilities of the surgical technologist, an integral health care professional in the delivery of perioperative patient care and surgical services; Identifies professional responsibilities, legal and ethical considerations, interpersonal relationships, identifying information resources and communication skills; Correlates the impact of microbiology in relationship to practice of sterile technique and infection control in the operative setting. Prerequisite: Current CPR or BLS certification or consent. Corequisite: May be taken concurrently with SUR 110, SUR 101, SUR 125, SUR 126, & SUR 130. Lecture: 3 credits (45 contact hours).
