3 class hours This course concentrates on the business of business-how accounting contributes to effective management while providing the students with a strong basic knowledge of accounting terms, concepts, and procedures. This course introduces basic accounting principles and procedures as it progresses through the accounting cycle for both a service-based and a merchandising business. Students become familiar with basic financial reports such as the balance sheet, income statement, statement of owner's equity, and statement of cash flows. Focus is on accounting procedures and theory. The overall objective is to provide the student with a sound basic understanding of the concepts, procedures, and terminology of accounting and the ability to analyze and interpret financial data and apply internal controls. Prerequisite: MAT100 or concurrent registration.
