A course designed to introduce the learner to weights and measures, drugs and solutions, action and use of drugs in the care of the perioperative patient. The course covers anesthetic, hemostatics and anticoagulant agents as well as antibiotics, diuretics, oxytoxics, steroids, dyes, opthalmics, muscle relaxants and related agents, as well as IV solutions and blood transfusion. Students are introduced to principles and application of basic patient care in the perioperative area and becomes CPR certified. Prerequisite: Enrollment in the surgical technology program.
