Prerequisite: CHEM 3521 This laboratory course is designed to familiarize students with modern techniques of surface science. The techniques include scanning tunneling microscopy, atomic force microscopy, low energy electron diffraction, auger electron spectroscopy, thermal desorption spectroscopy, and ion sputtering. Design considerations of vacuum systems will be explored. Since all techniques are on-site, this will be an interactive hands-on experience.
