This course provides a practical and theoretical understanding of the social and psychological factors that influence interpersonal relationships within the institution of marriage and the family. It will provide a functional vocabulary for the discussion and analysis of courtship, marriage and the family. Focusing on contemporary American society, this course will include such topics as: love and intimacy, stages of relationship development, marriage enrichment, divorce adjustment, single-parent families, child/spousal/ elderly abuse and family crises (illness, unemployment, conflict, divorce, etc.).
