Course Description: Overview of nursing and the role of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Topics include knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Key Concepts: This course provides the student with the fundamental principles upon which nursing practice is based for the nurse as a provider, a coordinator and as a member of the profession. Bio-psycho-sociocultural concepts are introduced as a foundation for subsequent nursing courses. Emphasis is placed on basic human needs, communications, safety, the hospital environment, prevention measures and the nursing process. Prerequisites: BIOL 2401, 2402, RNSG 1113, ENGL 1301 and PSYC 2301. *BIOL 2421 prior or concurrent. Concurrent RNSG 1205.
