Instruction in the theory, practical application, and pathogenesis of clinical microbiology, including collection, setup, identification, susceptibility testing, and reporting procedures. Learning Outcomes: The student will discuss morphology and physiology of microbes; demonstrate sterile technique; identify and classify microorganisms; and perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing using appropriate quality control procedures. The student will evaluate the suitability of clinical specimens. Using critical thinking skills, the student will evaluate laboratory test outcomes; select additional procedures to be performed; and correlate test results with patient conditions. Co-requisite: MLAB 1331.
