A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence to safely manage the scene of an emergency. At the completion of this unit, the student will be able to safely manage medical incidents, rescue situations, hazardous materials and crime scenes; display a working knowledge of state laws regarding ambulance operation, crime scene response, and patient care documentation; describe methods and equipment used for gaining access, extrication, and patient evacuation; state the roles and responsibilities of personnel responding to hazardous materials, mass casualty, and natural disaster incidents. Prerequisite: proof of CPR for Health Care Providers. Concurrent enrollment in EMSP 1501 and 1160 required.
