Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in safe administration of medications within a legal/ethical framework. Lays the foundation for pharmacological application throughout the program. Specific drug information is discussed in relation to assessment, nursing diagnosis, client monitoring, interventions, client education and evaluation of safe and effective drug therapy. Must be repeated if clinical evaluation in clinical courses is unsatisfactory in application of concepts from this course. Prerequisites: BIOL 2401, 2402, HPRS 1106 and 1204. Concurrent: RNSG 1160, 1413, 2306. CHEM 1406, PSYC 2301. Assessment Levels: R3, E3, M3.
