Provides a foundation in biological concepts for students majoring in the sciences. Includes evolution, origin and history of life, classification and diversity of life; plant and animal structures, functions and life cycles; behavior, ecology and global ecology. Recommended for students majoring in the biological sciences and related disciplines. Requiredinstead of BIOL 1411 and BIOL 1413 for certain programs (see biology advisor for details). Credit given for only one of BIOL 1309, 1407, or 1409. Prerequisite: BIOL 1406 or equivalent, or instructor's permission. Assessment Levels: R3, E3, M2.
