These courses examine the political, social, cultural, and economic history of Europe from the French Revolution to the present. The first semester (H427) covers the period from the French Revolution to the First World War, and includes study of the French Revolution; the impact of liberalism, socialism, and nationalism; industrialization; developments in science and culture; and international relations and imperialism. The second semester (H428) covers the period from the First World War to the present, and includes the two World Wars; Fascism, Nazism, and Communism; the Cold War; and the postwar years and revolutions of 1989. 3 credit hours. Satisfies ADR II.
