A survey, in English translation, of Hebrew, Yiddish, and Sephardic literature, and of Jewish literature of Europe and the Americas. The course examines the literatures of a civilization that evolved from a territory-based to an exilic culture, and has, in the twentieth century, reclaimed its territorial status, registered the cataclysms of genocide and reflected the challenges of a regenerating diasporic culture. Same as JWST:255. Prerequisite: sophomore standing or instructor's permission. 4 SH. Core: Perspectives on the World, Literature.
