This two-semester study provides an overview of the historical and contemporary connections between illustration and typography. The course work emphasizes the practical application of typography for the illustrator. Exercises range from semantics to basic page layout using a grid, critical comparisons, classical versus modern forms and creating typefaces when needed. The preparation and design of self-promotion materials is included. When appropriate and sequential within the context of the course, crossover illustration and typography projects are assigned.
