Theory of operation of the atomic force microscope, the scanning electron microscope and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. Through laboratory exercises and experimental work, students will learn the proper use and application of these instruments. Prerequisite: PHY 327 or permission (advanced students in the sciences or technical fields are encouraged to consider this course). 1 to 3 credits.
