A two-semester course sequence (82-161, 82-162) for beginning students emphasizing the development of communicative language proficiency: oral practice, aural comprehension, reading, writing, structural analysis, and work with audio tapes and DVDs. Also a study of cultural aspects of Italy. The elementary level is designed to help students learn to reflect upon and draw upon strategies used by good language learners in their second language study. Note: This is a 12 unit course.
