Students explore the tensions within the New South, Old South and Sunbelt through such topics as the Catawba Indians, the Roanoke Colony, the Regulator movement, Battle of Kings Mountain, slavery, Zebulon Vance, segregation, the tobacco empire, cotton mills, the Greensboro Sit-ins, Jesse Helms, Harvey Gant, and Grandfather Mountain
