MIDI is a communication protocol originally developed for electronic musical instruments. Without any prior knowledge of music, students can explore this technology for creating music and soundscapes and controlling other media such as digital video and lighting. Sampling and sequencing are examined in detail. The class also questions the mediation of technology in the process of art making and music performance. Prerequisite: SNDS 223.
