Description:
Emphasizes developing strong secondary reading and critical thinking skills with social studies materials. Exercises involve reading social studies passages and interpreting graphs, charts, maps, cartoons, diagrams, and photographs. Content includes world history, civics and government, economics and geography. This is the last in a series of courses in preparation for the GED Social Studies Test and may serve as a refresher for basic skills reading improvement. Placement in GED Reading Social Studies 035 or 036 is determined by the student s CASAS pretest score. Course content is the same for both levels. A level 036 student is expected to demonstrate accelerated progress in completing the course. Prerequisite: ABE 044 Reading or recommending score on CASAS pretest.
