(Formerly ENGR-220) An introduction to the concepts of stress, strain, deformation, and failure theory in solid materials. Applies mechanics of materials concepts to structural and machine elements in tension, compression, bending, and torsion. Topics include deformation of members, Poisson's ratio, stress concentrations, thermal stress, statically indeterminate techniques, flexure formula, sheer flow, stress transformation, Mohr's circle, strain gauges, deflections, and columns.
