This course is designed to enable the prospective teacher to utilize various instructional strategies to improve literacy across the content areas. It examines the importance of reader background knowledge and language acquisition in content classrooms. This course addresses the methods and materials to work with reading in the content for diverse learners (students with special needs and English Language Learners). Specifically, the language and culture of English Language Learners will be explored to facilitate the planning and implementation of effective instruction and assessment. Emphasis is on pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading strategies. Students will integrate reading strategies into the teaching of their content area curriculum through the development of lesson plans. Prerequisites: COSK2220 or COSK2225 and EDUC2100 Co-requisite: EDUC0322
