Subject:
Description:
This course is a two-week mural painting intensive in conjunction with the students from the University of the Andes in Merida, Venezuela. Using concepts of mural painting associated with Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program, students will work together to create an 18 x 30 foot mural. The Mural Arts Program here in Philadelphia will advise and assist in the making of the mural. The trip will concentrate entirely on the mural, which will require the students' complete focus in-order to complete it in two weeks. This mural will be permanently installed at the University of the Andes. Working with the students and faculty of the University of Andes offers a unique international and cultural experience. The university is the largest university in Venezuela with over 30,000 full time students. The 500 year-old city of Merida is located on a picturesque plateau surrounded by 16,000 foot-high snow capped peaks. The students will be housed in a traditional posada, a type of hotel with small comfortable rooms surrounding an interior courtyard. The mural class and international study opportunity is fully supported by the U.S. Embassy and its representative in the bi-national center of Merida.
