This course is an introduction to water based silk screen and its applications. Techniques covered range from the hand painted to the photographic. Also covered are the fundamentals of making and stretching screens, types of mesh, various pigment options and choice of print matrix available to the fine silkscreen artist. Students learn editioning and multiple color registration. A trip to a print collection provides students with a historical viewpoint and a greater grasp of the potential of this medium. Basic ideas of color, design, layering, degrees of opacity and transparency are intrinsic to silkscreen and emphasized throughout the course. Satisfies: Printmaking Requirement or Studio Elective
