Drawing the Figure in Context extends the skills and concepts of Basic Figure Drawing and Basic Drawing into the area of expression. The course is designed to help students develop awareness of the narrative and psychological implications of the formal language of drawing, with an emphasis on the figure. In a wide range of media, students will compose drawings with multiple figures and figure drawings using shallow and deep space, interior and exterior space, using shifting eye levels, various lighting situations and combination of these elements to focus on elements of narrative and feeling. The work of other artists, both historical and contemporary, will be studied to help develop understanding of the way in which the formal becomes expression. Satisfies: Studio Elective
