Although once considered a pale imitation of ancient Greece, the artistic accomplishments of Republican and Imperial Rome have undergone major reappraisal during the 20th century. Art of Ancient Rome assesses the relationship between Roman art and its culture of conquest, focusing on Roman contributions to architecture, engineering and urban planning, in addition to the development of portraiture and landscape as significant artistic genre.
