Advanced study of selected topics not covered in the introductory course: Huckle MolecularOrbital Theory; aromaticity and antiaromaticity; correlation of structure and activity by linear free energy relationships; acidity functions and Bronsted Catalysis; symmetry and stereochemistry; pericyclic, electrocyclic and sigmatropic reactions; kinetics and kinetic isotope effects; and application of spectroscopic techniques. Laboratory component involves individual multi-step syntheses and molecular modeling projects. Three class hours and four laboratory hours weekly. Prerequisites: CH202, 203. CH301, 302 highly recommended. Offered in 2003 and alternate years.
