Conducted in Spanish, this course covers the development of the modern short story in Latin America. Besides following the historical development of Latin American fiction, the course touches on several important themes: magical realism; the "Boom" in contemporary Latin American fiction; and feminist developments in Latin American fiction. Finally, several film adaptations of Latin American short stories are shown and studied. The course counts towards the general studies humanities requirement. Prerequisite: SPA 302 or permission of the instructor
