In this course, students analyze the primary works that constitute the philosophical background for capitalism, communism, and fascism. Readings are taken from the major essays of such writers as Hobbes, Adam Smith, Locke, Rousseau, Hegel, and Marx. Attention is also given to current authors within each major political position. Prerequisites: PHIL 102 and PHIL 103.
