NUR 308 - Nursing & Spirituality

Institution:
Neumann University
Subject:
Nursing
Description:
This course is designed to identify the universal truth of the spiritual dimension of human nature. During the semester, the student is encouraged to differentiate the spiritual dimension from religious practices, develop an awareness of the spiritual dimension, examine his/her personal spiritual dimension, reflect on the nurse-patient relationship, and focus on the cultural aspects of spirituality. The student utilizes the nursing process as it relates to chronically ill patients, children, and families, as well as the dying adult and the grieving family. Parish nursing is discussed in addition to other contemporary issues. Case histories in nursing which focus on the spiritual needs of the client are also investigated. Through this process, the student discovers the gift that he/she brings to the nurse-client relationship when spiritual needs are met. Service learning further enhances the course subject matter. Open to Nursing majors, RNs, and LPNs.
