This historical and thematic study of the 19th- to 20th-century philosophical movement known as Existentialism includes such themes as freedom, anxiety, death, the absurd, and the value of the individual against the crowd or mass society. These themes are discussed in the context of the thought of Kierkegaard, Sartre, Heidegger, and Marcel. Prerequisites: PHIL 102 and PHIL 103.
