A philosophical analysis of the nature and value of music is presented in this course. Additionally, specific topics in the aesthetics of music, such as mimesis, autonomy, meaning, and perception, are also explored. Through a survey of the philosophy of music in ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, students are taught the relationship between philosophy, art, and music. Prerequisites: PHIL 102 and PHIL 103. (This course can be used to satisfy the Fine Arts Core requirement)
