Description:
This course, especially recommended for prospective teachers of English, explores a representative sampling of literature which is suitable for children and adolescents, such as award-winning children’s novels; classic and contemporary coming-of-age novels; other fiction dealing with significant social issues; at least two plays; and a selection of appropriate poems. Attention is given to the historical development of literature for young people and to adapting various instructional methods and critical approaches which enhance the teaching of this body of literature. Prerequisite: ENG 101 (with a minimum grade of C) or placement into ENG 102. (English Literature Core Course)
