Description:
-
This introduction to the craft and art of writing short stories or a novella is conducted as a writer's workshop. Students are encouraged to share character sketches, structures for stories, and brief narratives in a mutually supportive small-group environment. Feedback, the cornerstone of improving writing, is emphasized as a critical component of the revision process. To understand different techniques for developing setting, plot, structure, character development, tone, and style, students read models of exemplary stories to analyze the writers' techniques. A portfolio is required as part of the student's evaluation. Prerequisites: ENG 102 and English Literature Core (both with a minimum grade of C).
