By the 1990s the insights, criticisms, and methodologies of its leading thinkers had permeated American intellectual life- most familiarly under the name of "postmodernism."What is this "movement" all about To what exactlyis it responding What exactly is "deconstruction" an d différenc e Why have these (and other) postmoderinsights/practices so dramatically transformed the American academy and its traditional disciplines We will consider these questions by considering the writing of thinkers such as Derrida, Foucault, Kristeva, Lyotard, and Deleuze (and Guattari).
