MDCA Procedures depicted in the Current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) Includes blood collection, specimen handling, basic urinalysis, identification of normal ranges, quality assurance, and quality control May include electrocardiogrphy Demonstrate proper venipuncture and skin puncture technique; demonstrate compliance with Universal/Standard Precautions and OSHA guidelines; properly perform hematocrit and glucose with a blood glucose meter; properly label and handle all biologic specimens; perform appropriate equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; demonstrate quality assurance and quality control procedures; and if appropriate, perform proper 12 lead electrocardiography Corequisites: MDCA 1309, MDCA 1164 NOTE: Upon successful completion of these courses, the student is eligible to submit application for the Registered Phlebotomy Technician certification examination with the American Medical Technologists Association Individuals who pass the examination are awarded the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) credential
