Introduction to the theoretical foundations of reading and literacy. Components of this course will include development of pre-reading abilities and the transition to beginning reading and the basic reading skills. There is an emphasis on oral language, phonological and phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, literacy development and practice, word analysis and decoding, and assessment with an emphasis on the Reading Standards for the state of Texas. Includes field experience and related technology.
