Participants will interview members of their community in their 5th, 6th and 7th decade of life to understand how the roles of older people are changing in cultures of North Carolina an in particular the cultures accessible to the University. Participants will be able to understand how life stories from social history can preserve cultural and personal identity. The use of story will also be examined in preserving the personhood of people with Alzheimer's disease. The course is supplemented by selected readings and flash video documentaries. Credit, 3 semester hours. PREREQ: "C" or better in ENG1050 and 1060.
