Introductory study of the basic concepts of physical geology. Topics include geologic time, plate tectonics, rocks and minerals, weathering and erosion, soils, structural geology, earthquakes, geomorphology, mass wasting, fluvial processes, coastal processes, glacial processes and groundwater. A basic science elective is recommended for civil engineers prior to upper-division courses in soil mechanics and foundations. Laboratory included.
