Exploration of principles of interpersonal communication through a combination of lecture, discussion, text readings, journals and class exercises, with the goals of recognizing and understanding how and why the student communicates as he or she does. Development of skills needed to make students more comfortable and more effective communicators. Students learn to say what they mean so that others will understand and so that they will understand what others say, to respond effectively, and understand and evaluate communication in a variety of contexts.
