This course explores issues relating to the social, economic, and political conditions of the developing world. It intends to answer questions such as: 1) What is the Third World and how is it characterized 2) What is development and is it desirable and 3) How do countries attain development Topics to be discussed include: history and geography; population, food and education; political conflict and instability; trade and the world economy; and women in the developing world. Credit, 3 semester hours. PREREQ: PSPA 1000 or 1010.
