Prerequisite: ARH 3057 or instructor permission. A survey of 15th- and 16th-century architecture in Italy with emphasis on works by Brunelleschi, Alberti, Bramante, Michelangelo, and Palladio. Discussion will center on how the major architectural types developed and why: churches, city palaces, public piazzas, and country villas. Particular attention will be paid to the impact of antiquity and the emergence of urban planning.
