Advanced topics in physiology and medicine of ambient pressure, immersion, gravity, temperature and gas composition. Environments considered include: diving, hyperbaric medicine; hot/cold terrestrial, water operations; microgravity, high-g acceleration; high altitude,space. Basic mechanisms and medical management of: decompression sickness; altitude sickness; hypothermia and hyperthermia; hypoxia; carbon monoxide poisoning; oxygen toxicity. Practical applications: pressure vessel design, operation; life support equipment; cardiorespiratory physiology measurements at low and high pressure; simulated dive and flight (optional).
