The project of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the idea of understanding the mind/brain as a computing machine. Elementary ideas both in computational theory and in programming (for example, LISP). Examination of neural network models built to understand the workings of the brain, and major AI projects in knowledge representation, game playing and autonomous robotics, issues in the philosophical foundations of AI, such as the idea of Turing Test, and evaluation of debates between AI researchers and their critics.
