BIOLOGY 117 - Cell and Organismal Physiology

Institution:
Duke University
Subject:
Biology
Description:
Mechanisms and processes that organisms use to deal with the challenges posed by their physical, chemical, and ecological contexts. Structure-function relationships explored from molecules and cells to tissues and organ systems. Topics include cellular architecture, energy metabolism, molecular motors, motility/locomotion, sensory mechanisms/signal transduction, ionic/osmotic balance, gas exchange, thermal physiology. Constraints and adaptations related the evolution of eukaryotes and the evolution of multicellularity. Prerequisite: Biology 25L or 101L or equivalent.
