This course is a survey of the major fiction of Hispanic literature with a special emphasis on the short story. Careful attention will be given to the prose works of the twentieth century. Authors such as Quiroga, Borges, Cortazar, Puig, Carpentier, Garcia Marquez, Delibes, Matute, Cela, Sender, Galdos, Goytisolo, and others will be analyzed. Current novelistic theory and criticism will be introduced. Prerequisite: SPA 3333 or SPA 3335.
