The central core of this course is to understand the sociological interaction of African American history, ethos and cultural experience following the people's involuntary settlement in America. It seeks to understand the social forces affecting every aspect of life among African Americans, the position of African Americans in American society as well as the manner in which other Americans view them. Whereas the method is sociological, the approach is interdisciplinary taking into account recent developments in economic, political and historical scholarship regarding African Americans.
