This course surveys the history of Latin America with a special emphasis on Africans and their descendants, particularly in the Caribbean Islands, Central America and Brazil. This course examines the responses of Africans and their descendants to the political, economic, and social conditions in the colonial and postcolonial periods. It can serve as one of the options for the Third World requirement in the history program. Prerequisite: junior status.
