The course examines the language varieties spoken in the United States. A variety of topics will be discussed such as the origin, history, and distinctiveness of American English (AE), regional and social varieties in AE, linguistic features of African American English, multilingualism, and Native American languages. The course will also focus on linguistic diversity and English language acquisition and language and education.
