This course is the first part of two- semester course in organic chemistry. This course provides an introduction to the study of the compounds of carbon and their derivatives, their relation to each other, their chemical and physical properties, their nomenclature, preparation and reactions of the following classes of compounds: alkanes, alkyl halides, alcohols, alkenes and alkynes. In addition, spectroscopy (IR, NMR and Mass Spectrometry) is introduced. (Three lecture hours per week) Prerequisite: CHE 2312. Co-requisite: CHE 3126.
