This course expands the student's view of the community as a client and teaches concepts and principles necessary to apply the nursing process to improve and maintain community health. Sociocultural, environmental, political, and economic factors influencing health and the delivery of health care are included, particularly as they impact on the developing family. The health of the community is viewed from the context of systems theory. The role of the nurse as change agent in the promotion of health is emphasized. An opportunity is provided to apply the concepts of community nursing practice in developing and presenting a health promotion program to a selected population. Course includes 28 clinical hours. Prerequisites: NURS 363, 364, and either 360 or 361. 3 semester hours
